Last night, Baltimore Fugitive Apprehension team for Big Boyz Bail Bonds apprehended a defendant that missed court approximately four days after his failure to appear in court. Many warrant apprehension teams will wait weeks, if not several months before they attempt to detain a wanted fugitive.
The purpose of bail in Maryland is to insure the defendant's appearance in court. If the defendant fails to appear it is the responsibility of the bail bonds company to locate the defendant and make the arrest. Maryland Bail Bondsmen often receive negative connotations because we are releasing defendants that are being alleged to commit a crime. But what most people don't understand is that we simultaneously are providing a service of public safety.
Rather than letting our defendants run the streets of Baltimore with warrants we make it our goal to clean up these warrants as quickly as possible to protect you or someone else from possibly getting hurt.
This particular defendant had some mental health issues and was known to bounce around from hospital to hospital essentially looking for an open bed. His sister, who signed him out on the bond, was unfortunately incarcerated at the time so we had little to work with in tracking this defendant down.
Fortunately, through our well trained and knowledgeable fugitive recovery team we were able to bring the defendant back into custody in little to no time at all. This arrest is one of many warrants in the state of Maryland that ultimately contributes to making the city of Baltimore a slightly safer place to live in. It is a known fact that the State of Maryland has many open warrants that are yet to be resolved, but without bail bondsmen the number of open warrants would be astronomically higher.
